EMOTIONS THROUGH CULTURES
26 SEPTEMBER 2023, 6.30 PM TO 8 PM, 6 NIXON STREET, AUCKLAND
Emotions Through Cultures examines the cross-cultural evolution of affect as a catalyst for artistic production. This session moves beyond the universality of feeling to investigate how specific cultural contexts shape, constrain, and liberate emotional expression. By analyzing how artists across disparate traditions have harnessed intense interiority as a primary source of inspiration, the conversation explores the tension between individual experience and collective heritage. We consider the artist not just as a feeler, but as a translator of culturally-coded sensibilities into visual and narrative form.
